Front Cover

This week Im experimenting with photoshop, to create my magazine front cover. As I have never used photoshop before, I will be learning how to use different tools by watching YouTube videos, to help me become an expert. Although Im not actually using this image, I used it for my editing, to help me understand photoshop much better. At a later date, I will eventually use an image of my model covered in paint, and just replace it with my previous image.

Of all the photos I have taken, this is my favourite and I'm going to use it for my front cover. I love how my model, Molly looks dramatic but happy at the same time because she has her mouth slightly open, giving a tiny smile. This could give of the impression that she enjoys college. I think this could have the potential in selling well, if I ever was to sell it.

Photoshop Editing

These are screenshots of my magazine cover in progress!

Firstly I changed the brightness and contrast of the image, to make the model stand out and grab the attention of readers.

I selected a variey of fonts that i liked and then chose my final font from them for my magazine masthead.

I then added a date to my cover to show my readers when it was produced.

I changed the date because I decided my front cover looked like it belonged with September as it has autumn colours. I also came up with a cover line which represents my magazine. The reason I decided to use this cover line is because my masthead is 'EXPLODE', so its all about letting yourself be free with art and music. Then I added a barcode even though my magazine is free because its follow the conventions of a magazine.

After debating whether to put a buzz word on my magazine, I finally decided to involve one in my magazine as most magazines have one.

I have recently done a photoshoot with paint to update my front cover. Will doing this I decided that I'm going to keep the image as it is, because it turned out better and I prefer the final image. But I will be using my recent images as my content page. I think this works better because when you open my magazine, the model goes from being normal to having paint all over her, making the readers more
intrigued and giving it more of a meaning.

Here is another photo I took before deciding my front cover image. They were both taken at college, so fit well with a college magazine.

Above is a image I took before taking the other photos. I thought I would just show you the different positions I got the model to do. This didn't really work as well as the others because my model wasn't looking directly into the camera which creates a different affect on the readers, instead of drawing them in.

I have many ideas for my college magazine, all in which are based around creative arts, such as music and art.

I researched paint photo shoots, as one of my ideas is to cover my model in paint. All the images I found are of head shots, but I'm planning on getting a medium close up, with the model posing in a certain way. I really like the expressions on each of the models faces because they are dramatic and are just like what you would find on the front of a magazine.

I couldn't find any creative arts magazines that inspired me, as most of them didn't have models on the front cover. So I'm hoping to create something that's different to most creative magazines.

I'm starting off with composing different  positions for my model. After I'm happy with a position I will then spray paint over my model.

Cheese string Ad - Eh, I'm Just Cheese.

' I'm just CHEESE! '

This cheese string ad was directed by Nicolas Kasakoff, with agency producer Gemma Knight and production company Blink, who have also produced many other cheese string adverts. The main character- the cheese man, exits from the sea in James Bond style and changes from a normal cheese string into a new brand off cheese- the cheese spaghetti! This advertises both the old and new brand of cheese string, making the viewers want to try something new.

Its message is very clear, but the producers have used many creative techniques to attract different aged viewers. The advert is presented as slightly dramatically because of the music choice, which immediately attracts the attention of the viewer. Theatrical music has been used to make sure the viewer does look at the advert, as the music is loud and bold, making the advert more striking. Over the years cheese string adverts have become well known, purely because of the main character. The producers created a main character to show in all of the cheese string adverts, to make the product better known because as soon as you see Mr strings you know what the advert is going to be about, giving you more of an understanding. Instead of using dull, boring colours, the producers have used bright and happy colours so its more eye catching.

This advert is comical as well as light- hearted, so appeals to a bigger range of people. There are no offensive aspects in the advert so can be played at anytime, becoming a more viewed advert.  Different people may have a different understanding to the message that is being put across. Young children will see it as a humorous cartoon, wanting their parents to buy the cheese strings because they enjoyed the advert. While parents see it as a healthy snack as it 'just cheese' and ideal for children's lunches. All these things make the advert very versatile in the way people understand it.

SO GO BUY A CHEESE STRING!
